Figueres Free Tour

Discover Figueres, the birthplace of Salvador Dalí. Get to know its incredible history, tour its old town and marvel at the Theater-Museum.

Welcome to our free tour of Figueres!

We will begin our journey with a fascinating historical introduction: Figueres has its roots in antiquity, having been inhabited by the Iberians over 2000 years ago, and its development was consolidated during the medieval period.

Next, we will visit the two houses where Salvador Dalí, the surrealist genius, was born and lived. We will delve into the life of the artist and explore how the tumultuous events of the 20th century impacted both him and his fellow citizens.

Afterward, we will introduce you to a prominent but lesser-known figure from Figueres: Narcís Monturiol, the inventor of the mechanical propulsion submarine. We will uncover his achievements and his contribution to the history of underwater navigation.

Continuing our tour, we will head towards the vibrant area of the Town Hall, the heart of the historic centre, where the city comes alive. Here, you will immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere and have the opportunity to explore its charming streets.

Further along, we will explore the special geographical location of Figueres, situated so close to the French border that the Spanish government decided to construct the largest modern-era fortress in Europe here: the impressive Castle of Sant Ferran.

Lastly, we will admire the ancient Church and right next to it, the renowned Dalí Museum, which had been an old theatre with a tragic outcome. There, we will discover why the painter chose to locate his museum precisely in this place.
